Privacy Policy

Last updated September 29, 2026

This Privacy Notice for Chicago Medspa LLC, the operator of Retain ("we," "us," or "our"), describes how and why we might access, collect, store, use, and/or share ("process") your personal information when you use our services ("Services"), including when you:

  • Visit our website at https://getretain.fit, or any website of ours that links to this Privacy Notice
  • Download and use our mobile application (Retain), or any other application of ours that links to this Privacy Notice
  • Use Retain. Retain is a wellness and fitness tracking app. Users can log workouts, nutrition and macros, body weight and measurements, progress photos, and optional GLP-1 medication cycles. Retain is a self-tracking tool and does not provide medical advice.
  • Send feedback, request support, or opt in to occasional product updates and tips

Questions or concerns? Reading this Privacy Notice will help you understand your privacy rights and choices. We are responsible for making decisions about how your personal information is processed. If you do not agree with our policies and practices, please do not use our Services. If you still have any questions or concerns, please contact us at getretainfit@gmail.com.

Summary of Key Points

This summary provides key points from our Privacy Notice, but you can find out more details about any of these topics by using the table of contents below.

What personal information do we process? When you visit, use, or navigate our Services, we may process personal information depending on how you interact with us and the Services, the choices you make, and the products and features you use.

Do we process any sensitive personal information? Some of the information may be considered "special" or "sensitive" in certain jurisdictions. We may process sensitive personal information when necessary with your consent or as otherwise permitted by applicable law.

Do we collect any information from third parties? We do not buy third-party profiles about you. If you give permission, Retain reads a limited Apple Health summary on your device; those readings are not uploaded to Retain. When you use food search, the text you type passes through Retain's cloud to FatSecret or the USDA database to return results. Retain does not attach your account, stored profile, health logs, or user identifier to those server-to-server provider requests.

How do we process your information? We process your information to provide, improve, and administer our Services, communicate with you, for security and fraud prevention, and to comply with law. We may also process your information for other purposes with your consent. We process your information only when we have a valid legal reason to do so.

In what situations and with which types of parties do we share personal information? We may share information in specific situations and with specific categories of third parties.

How do we keep your information safe? Security measures reduce risk, but no electronic transmission over the internet or information storage technology can be guaranteed to be 100% secure.

What are your rights? Depending on where you are located geographically, the applicable privacy law may mean you have certain rights regarding your personal information.

How do you exercise your rights? The easiest way to exercise your rights is by contacting us at getretainfit@gmail.com. We will consider and act upon any request in accordance with applicable data protection laws.

Optional Community

When enrollment is available, adults with a verified email can choose to create a separate Community profile and accept the community rules. You choose its display name and optional bio. Your profile is reviewed before it appears to other members. We do not automatically copy your private account profile or progress photos into it.

Each workout you choose to share creates a preview of its title, duration, set and rep counts, training volume and recorded personal records. You choose a caption and an audience, such as approved followers or the Chicago community. Other members may copy exercise names, sets and reps into their own routines; individual lifting weights are not copied. Apple Health readings, medications, body measurements and private notes are not included.

Gym discovery and Community photo uploads are separate features that may not yet be available. When gym features are enabled, you can optionally select a primary gym, tag a workout or share with its community. Community requires no GPS permission or live location tracking. Your chosen gym can reveal where you train. Gym searches are sent through our server to Google Maps Platform, and gym details are fetched when displayed. We store the Google place identifier and your chosen affiliation, not a record of your device location. See Google’s Privacy Policy.

When Community photo uploads are enabled, you may choose a profile photo or up to three new photos for a workout. Selected photos are re-encoded and their metadata is stripped before storage in a private bucket. Authorized members and moderators can view permitted photos. Moderators review profiles, workouts and comments before publication and receive reports. Avoid sharing information you would not want the selected audience to save or screenshot.

Removing a post or its source workout revokes access to its community copy and queues its media for deletion. Leaving Community deletes your community profile and interactions while keeping personal tracking records. Account deletion removes both. Reports and moderation audit records may be retained for safety and abuse prevention; they are not public. Operational backups and copies saved independently by other members may take longer to disappear.

1.What Information Do We Collect?

Personal information you disclose to us

In Short: We collect personal information that you provide to us.

We collect personal information that you voluntarily provide to us when you register on the Services, express an interest in obtaining information about us or our products and Services, when you participate in activities on the Services, or otherwise when you contact us.

Personal Information Provided by You. The personal information that we collect depends on the context of your interactions with us and the Services, the choices you make, and the products and features you use. The personal information we collect may include the following:

  • First and last name, email address, optional phone number, and account/authentication information
  • Date of birth, gender, body statistics, nutrition and training goals, and other profile preferences
  • State, ZIP code, timezone, and app preferences
  • Food and water logs, custom foods, workout routines, exercise details, completed sets, and progress records
  • Feedback and support messages, stored with your account ID and email address

Sensitive Information. When necessary, with your consent or as otherwise permitted by applicable law, we process the following categories of sensitive information:

  • Weight, body measurements, nutrition records, and progress photos you choose to save
  • Optional GLP-1 medication name, dose, start date, injection records, symptoms, and journal notes

Account-linked app data. Your app tracking records are stored with your account through our cloud services so you can retrieve them after signing in. Feedback is held for support as described below, rather than displayed in your tracking history. Progress photos include a timestamp and may include a GLP-1 injection-cycle day when that feature is used.

Machine finder. Descriptions are matched against Retain's exercise catalog on your device. You choose a matching exercise before it is added to your workout. Machine-photo recognition is not available in this version. This is separate from progress photos you explicitly choose to save to your account.

Device-only trackers. Menstrual-cycle tracking and male and female hormone check-ins are stored on your device, separately for each account. Retain does not send those tracker entries to its cloud or analytics. These are different from the optional GLP-1 medication and symptom records described above, which are account-linked cloud records. Device-only entries are not a cloud backup and may be lost if app or browser storage is removed.

Device-only widgets and shortcuts. Retain writes daily calorie, protein and water totals and targets, optional workout counts, minutes, dates, sets and active-session progress, plus date, timezone, sync, update and expiry metadata, to protected app-group storage on your device. If you separately enable steps in Settings → Widgets, the snapshot may also contain that day's step total and reading time from Apple Health, and the widget can request fresh step totals directly from Health on the schedule iOS allows. Other Health readings are excluded. These snapshots are not uploaded to Retain. With Keep latest visible enabled, an older log may remain visible with its original date; missing readings are not treated as zero. Signing out clears the snapshot. Widgets and workout Live Activities can be visible to someone viewing your device. Siri shortcuts only open Retain's food, water or training screen; they do not provide personal readings to Siri or log an entry for you.

Optional AI handoff. You may review and copy a general question or choose to include the displayed workout summary or food totals, then paste it into your own ChatGPT, Gemini or Claude account. Retain does not automatically send the prompt, link your AI account, or read replies or private chat history. Health readings, photos, medications and account details are excluded from the generated summary. Any text you paste into another service is subject to that service's privacy practices. Separately, if you connect Apple Health in ChatGPT, the categories you authorize there are controlled by Apple and ChatGPT's sharing settings.

Optional Live Health connection. You choose which categories Retain may read: steps, active and resting energy, walking/running and cycling distance, legacy NikeFuel, workouts, weight, waist, body fat, lean mass, height, BMI, heart rate, blood pressure, date of birth, biological sex, nutrition, water, blood alcohol content, and sleep. Live Health also shows up to 90 days of daily steps, active energy and average heart rate already saved in Apple Health. Readings remain on your device. Retain does not upload them to its cloud, analytics or email. Except for separately enabled step widgets described above, readings stay in memory and are not included in widgets or Live Activities. They do not automatically change your Retain profile, diary, or calorie targets. This connection does not record sensors continuously, make a medical assessment, or provide emergency monitoring. Separately, you may authorize Retain to write your logged calories, protein, carbohydrates, fat, water, weight, latest waist measurement, and newly timed workouts to Apple Health. Retain never writes estimated exercise calories or missing nutrient values as measurements. Repeated syncs replace matching Retain records using account-scoped identifiers; clearing a day's nutrition or water can remove Retain's corresponding shared total. Retain does not modify records written by other apps. You can sync manually or enable sync while the app is open. Connection preferences and optional step-widget snapshots are stored locally; other retrieved Health readings are not persisted by Retain. Other apps you authorize in Apple Health may access records you share there. Using multiple apps for the same nutrition entries may create overlapping records. You can use Retain without connecting Health, change individual permissions in Apple's Health settings, or disconnect in Retain. Disconnecting and signing out clear the displayed readings. Disconnecting, deleting a Retain workout or measurement, or deleting your Retain account does not erase already shared records from Apple Health or revoke Apple's permissions. Manage those records and permissions in Apple Health. Existing account-linked Retain records remain subject to the cloud collection and deletion practices described above.

Usage and diagnostics. Retain stores account-linked feature interactions such as tab views and logging actions, plus limited diagnostic events, to understand feature use and troubleshoot problems. Usage events include an event name and category, time, and limited allowlisted action metadata; they are designed not to include tracking entry contents. Diagnostic events use a generic context and code rather than exception messages or health-record content.

All personal information that you provide to us must be true, complete, and accurate, and you must notify us of any changes to such personal information.

Information automatically collected

In Short: Retain records limited usage and diagnostic events. Our hosting and cloud providers also process technical connection information when delivering the service.

Retain's app events may be associated with your account and include an event name and category, event time, limited allowlisted action metadata, and generic diagnostic context and codes. They support first-party usage analysis and troubleshooting. Hosting and cloud services process connection information, such as IP addresses and browser request information, to deliver and protect the service. Provider operational logs are separate from your visible tracking records.

Device storage used for sign-in, preferences, and recoverable edits is described in the section on cookies and other tracking technologies below.

2.How Do We Process Your Information?

In Short: We process your information to provide, improve, and administer our Services, communicate with you, for security and fraud prevention, and to comply with law. We may also process your information for other purposes with your consent.

We process your personal information for a variety of reasons, depending on how you interact with our Services, including:

  • To facilitate account creation and authentication and otherwise manage user accounts. We may process your information so you can create and log in to your account, as well as keep your account in working order.
  • To deliver and facilitate delivery of services to the user. We may process your information to provide you with the requested service.
  • To respond to user inquiries/offer support to users. We may process your information to respond to your inquiries and solve any potential issues you might have with the requested service.
  • To send administrative information to you. We may process your information to send you details about our products and services, changes to our terms and policies, and other similar information.
  • To send optional product updates and tips. If you opt in, we may use your email address to send occasional product updates and tips. You can turn this off in Settings.
  • To protect our Services. We may process your information as part of our efforts to keep our Services safe and secure, including fraud monitoring and prevention.
  • To evaluate and improve our Services and your experience. We may process your information when we believe it is necessary to identify usage trends and evaluate and improve our Services, products, and your experience.
  • To identify usage trends. We may process information about how you use our Services to better understand how they are being used so we can improve them.
  • To comply with our legal obligations. We may process your information to comply with our legal obligations, respond to legal requests, and exercise, establish, or defend our legal rights.

3.When and With Whom Do We Share Your Personal Information?

In Short: We may share information in specific situations described in this section and/or with the following categories of third parties.

Vendors, Consultants, and Other Third-Party Service Providers. We may share your data with third-party vendors, service providers, contractors, or agents ("third parties") who perform services for us or on our behalf and require access to such information to do that work. Their handling of information is also described in the applicable provider service terms and privacy notices. The categories and specific app data flows described here explain why Retain uses these services.

The categories of third parties we may share personal information with are as follows:

  • Cloud Computing Services
  • Data Storage Service Providers
  • Communication & Collaboration Tools
  • User Account Registration & Authentication Services
  • Website Hosting Service Providers
  • Nutrition database providers (food search)

Food search. When you search for a food, the text you type passes through Retain's cloud to FatSecret, our nutrition data provider, so we can return nutrition information for your search. Barcode lookup sends the decoded barcode, not camera images. Retain does not attach your stored profile, account identifier, health logs, or another Retain user identifier to these server-to-server nutrition-provider requests. The search text itself and technical request information are processed to complete the request, so avoid including personal or sensitive details in a food search. Provider handling is governed by the applicable provider terms and privacy notice.

Feedback and support. In-app feedback is stored with your account ID, current email address, and message. A copy containing the message, email address, and user ID is queued for delivery to the Retain support team so we can review and respond. Please avoid including health details that are not needed to explain the issue. Account deletion does not retract delivered support mail or immediately erase queues, delivery records, provider logs, or backups. The retention limits below still apply.

We also may need to share your personal information in the following situations:

  • Business Transfers. We may share or transfer your information in connection with, or during negotiations of, any merger, sale of company assets, financing, or acquisition of all or a portion of our business to another company.

4.Do We Use Cookies and Other Tracking Technologies?

In Short: Retain uses local storage for sign-in, preferences, and recoverable edits, and account-linked events for first-party usage analysis and troubleshooting.

The app stores its sign-in session and preferences on your device. It also uses local storage for device-only trackers and recoverable drafts or unsaved changes. Signing out prevents another signed-in account from viewing those account-scoped records; it does not necessarily remove recoverable local copies belonging to your account.

First-party usage and diagnostic events are stored through our cloud services and linked to your account. This version of Retain does not include an advertising SDK or an abandoned-cart reminder flow. Device-only menstrual-cycle and hormone tracker entries are not included in these events.

Retain does not sell your personal information, use it for targeted advertising, or track your activity across other companies' apps or websites. This notice is not permission for unrelated future sharing. We will provide notice and request consent where applicable before a meaningful new use or sharing practice begins.

5.How Long Do We Keep Your Information?

In Short: We keep active account records while your account is open. The six-month limit after account termination described below continues to apply to residual copies, except where law requires longer retention.

We keep active account records while your account is open. Successful account deletion removes account-linked rows and progress-photo files from active app systems, revokes sessions, and deletes the authentication account. Account-scoped local records and the widget snapshot are cleared on the device completing deletion.

Limited residual copies may remain in delivered support email, queues, delivery records, provider logs, and backups. Our six-month limit after account termination continues to apply to personal information in those copies, except to the extent law requires longer retention. Legally required copies must be restricted from ordinary product use, used only for that purpose, and removed when the requirement ends.

6.How Do We Keep Your Information Safe?

In Short: We aim to protect your personal information through a system of organizational and technical security measures.

Security measures are intended to reduce unauthorized access and other risks. No electronic transmission over the Internet or information storage technology can be guaranteed to be 100% secure, so we cannot promise or guarantee that hackers, cybercriminals, or other unauthorized third parties will not be able to defeat our security and improperly collect, access, steal, or modify your information. Although we will do our best to protect your personal information, transmission of personal information to and from our Services is at your own risk. You should only access the Services within a secure environment.

7.Do We Collect Information From Minors?

In Short: We do not knowingly collect data from or market to children under 18 years of age.

We do not knowingly collect, solicit data from, or market to children under 18 years of age, nor do we knowingly sell such personal information. As stated in our Terms of Use, you must be at least 18 to use or register for Retain. Parental consent does not create an exception to this age requirement. If we learn that personal information from users less than 18 years of age has been collected, we will deactivate the account and take reasonable measures to promptly delete it from active app systems. Residual copies remain subject to the retention section above. If you become aware of any data we may have collected from children under age 18, please contact us at getretainfit@gmail.com.

8.What Are Your Privacy Rights?

In Short: You may review, change, or terminate your account at any time, depending on your country, province, or state of residence.

Withdrawing your consent: If we are relying on your consent to process your personal information, which may be express and/or implied consent depending on the applicable law, you have the right to withdraw your consent at any time. You can withdraw your consent at any time by contacting us by using the contact details provided in the section "How Can You Contact Us About This Notice?" below.

However, please note that this will not affect the lawfulness of the processing before its withdrawal nor, when applicable law allows, will it affect the processing of your personal information conducted in reliance on lawful processing grounds other than consent.

Account Information. If you would at any time like to review or change the information in your account or terminate your account, you can:

  • Log in to your account settings and update your user account.

Successful account deletion removes your account-linked rows and progress-photo files from active app systems, revokes sessions, and deletes the authentication account. Delivered support mail, queues, delivery records, provider logs, backups, and legally required records are handled as described in the retention section above.

Device storage: You can manage browser or app storage through your device settings. Removing it can sign you out and erase device-only tracker entries, unfinished workouts, widget data, and unsaved edits. It does not delete records already stored in your cloud account; use Retain's account-deletion flow or contact us for that request. Successful account deletion clears account-scoped local records and the widget snapshot on the device completing deletion.

If you have questions or comments about your privacy rights, you may email us at getretainfit@gmail.com.

9.Controls for Do-Not-Track Features

Most web browsers and some mobile operating systems and mobile applications include a Do-Not-Track ("DNT") feature or setting you can activate to signal your privacy preference not to have data about your online browsing activities monitored and collected. At this stage, no uniform technology standard for recognizing and implementing DNT signals has been finalized. As such, we do not currently respond to DNT browser signals or any other mechanism that automatically communicates your choice not to be tracked online. If a standard for online tracking is adopted that we must follow in the future, we will inform you about that practice in a revised version of this Privacy Notice.

California law requires us to let you know how we respond to web browser DNT signals. Because there currently is not an industry or legal standard for recognizing or honoring DNT signals, we do not respond to them at this time.

10.Do United States Residents Have Specific Privacy Rights?

In Short: If you are a resident of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Oregon, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, or Virginia, you may have the right to request access to and receive details about the personal information we maintain about you and how we have processed it, correct inaccuracies, get a copy of, or delete your personal information. You may also have the right to withdraw your consent to our processing of your personal information. These rights may be limited in some circumstances by applicable law.
